A product’s flavor profile and aroma contribute to the sensory experience of consuming it, and this is especially true with nutritional supplements. It is not only important for your product to be potent and effective, but the taste experience must also be a pleasure to your consumers.
Many of the common vitamins and minerals in nutritional supplements are bitter and their presence is difficult to mask, making good-tasting supplements a challenge to develop.
Understanding the need for your product to pass the consumer’s taste test, Wellington Foods has invested in our own flavor development and manufacturing unit. Our flavor chemist works with our R&D team to build bench-top flavor samples for use in many of our new products. We use the basic building blocks of flavors to create each flavor-system in a way that enhances your finished products. This capability gives us significant reach into ‘hard to flavor’ products that traditionally are difficult to produce. It also provides us great success in product line extensions, where a new flavor of an existing product will allow a customer to add another SKU to their product line.
Because we have all of this capability in-house, we are able to use our flavor development to reduce turn-around time during development of new products. Once a unique flavoring system has been developed in the lab, we can manufacture this flavor on a production scale inside our on-site flavor production facility. This capability is a great benefit during both the development process and the production process.
